Assistant Professor

555 Mission Bay Blvd South

Clinical Interests: Dr. Parikh is a noninvasive cardiologist and echocardiographer. She completed internal medicine training at Tufts-New England Medical Center and cardiovascular training at Harvard-Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Her primary clinical interests are in primary and secondary prevention and cardiovascular diseases in women including heart disease in pregnancy. Dr. Parikh sees patients in both the UCSF Prevention and Center and the Pregnancy and Cardiac Treatment Program on the Mission Bay Campus.

Research Interests: Dr. Parikh is a cardiovascular epidemiologist and population scientist. She has an MPH in epidemiology and biostatistics from the U.C. Berkeley School of Public Health and did her post-doctoral research fellowship at the Framingham Heart Study. In her NIH/NRSA supported work at Harvard Beth Israel Deaconess, she demonstrated in the Multi Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis that the hemodynamic changes of pregnancy may not revert back to normal, may be cumulative across successive pregnancies, and can lead to left ventricular remodeling on cardiac MRI in mid-life. Her work has been supported by grants from both the American Heart Association and the NIH/National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Dr Parikh is devleoping risk stratification tools that can be employed as an 'early window' into later cardiovascular disease risk factors and overt disease in women. She is utilizing data from the Women's Health Initiative Observational Study, Swedish Population Registers and several other cohorts to develop and validate these risk tools. Other research areas include employing mHealth technologies to aid in lifestyle interventions for CVD risk reduction in women of childbearing age and taking deep dives into the cardiometabolic mechanisms underlying the association between pregnancy factors and CVD in women. Dr. Parikh is a co-investigator with the UCSF Preterm Birth Initative.
