Medicine Grand Rounds: Priscilla Hsue, MD

HIV, Inflammation, and Cardiovascular Disease – where are we in 2021?

Priscilla Hsue, MD is the William Watt Professor of Medicine at UCSF and is Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Zuckerberg General Hospital. Dr. Hsue obtained her B.S. degree at Carnegie Mellon University and did her medical school, internal medicine residency, and cardiology fellowship training atPriscilla Hsue, Md UCSF. She is an international expert in the cardiovascular consequences of HIV infection and started her career by establishing an HIV cardiology clinic which was among the first of its kind in the world. As a researcher, Dr. Hsue leads a multidisciplinary team which encompasses a broad portfolio of clinical and translational studies on HIV-related cardiovascular disease. She has performed clinical trials of anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and lipid lowering therapies in the setting of HIV, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, and recently, COVID-19. Dr. Hsue has had continuous NIH funding since 2005 and is currently PI and Co-I on numerous NIH grants. She has been Chair of the Clinical and Integrative Cardiovascular Science study section at NHLBI, a member of the Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council at NIH, and also a member of the Scientific Committee of the Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation.

Currently, Dr. Hsue serves as Co-Director of the Center for Excellence in Vascular Research, is an elected member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation (and is the Secretary-Treasurer of this organization), and is also a member of the Association of University Cardiologists, ImmunoX, and CVRI. Dr. Hsue has had the privilege of mentoring numerous students, residents, fellows, and faculty and has been recognized by multiple mentoring awards and grants.
