Zian H. Tseng, MD, MAS brings expertise in risk stratification of patients prone to sudden death and ventricular arrhythmias. He is expert in all aspects of electrophysiology including ablation of complex arrhythmias, implantation of devices, device treatment of heart failure (resynchronization), and lead extraction. His research activities span his interests in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, and basic and clinical science. He is involved with developing new ablation and device treatments. In 2010, he was awarded a 5-year NIH/NHLBI grant as the principal investigator for a project aiming to more accurately define sudden cardiac death (SCD), arrhythmic sudden death, and its risk factors by comprehensive autopsy and histopathologic evaluation of all incident SCDs in San Francisco County, in collaboration with the Medical Examiner. His other active projects include identification of genetic risk factors for SCD in the setting of coronary artery disease and assessment of sudden death risk with the use of Tasers by law enforcement agencies.
Dr. Tseng, a Bay Area native, graduated in 1998 from the UCSF School of Medicine, where he also completed a year of graduate studies in Biomedical Sciences and a Master's in Advanced Studies in clinical research. He completed his internal medicine, cardiology, and electrophysiology training at UCSF, where he is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine.
