Research Interests

  1. Cardiovascular involvement in AIDS. Funded by NIH. I am Principal Investigator. It looks at patients with varying stages of HIV infection and a control group, recruited as outpatients and followed clinically and by quantitative echocardiography over a period of four years. At the present time, that data has been collected and we are pursuing a long-term follow-up on the patients who had, or developed, AIDS.
  2. Valvular Heart Disease- together with Drs. Barry Massie and Barry Greenberg we completed and reported the beneficial effect of afterload reduction in patients with moderate to severe aortic regurgitation. A number of papers resulted from this study.
  3. At present we are studying patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation and examining the possibility that those patients with elevated "a" and "v" waves have right ventricular dysfunction whereas those with isolated elevated "v" waves have normal right ventricular filling pressure. This investigation ios ongoing.
