Dr. Michael Crawford is chief of clinical cardiology at UCSF Medical Center. He specializes in coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and heart failure. In addition, he is interested in adults with congenital heart disease and heart disease in athletes.

Crawford received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley and his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco.

He went on to do his training in internal medicine at the UC Hospitals in San Francisco and the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He completed his cardiology training at the University of California, San Diego, where he then joined the faculty. He also was the co-director of cardiology at the University of Texas in San Antonio and then went to the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where he was chief of cardiology. Before returning to UCSF, Crawford was a consultant and vice-chair of cardiology at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Crawford is the co-lead editor of the textbook Cardiology and the editor of Current Diagnosis and Treatment in Cardiology. He has over 280 published research articles, reviews and book chapters. He has served as the Chairman of the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association and on the board of directors of the American College of Cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians as well as a member of the Association of University Cardiologists and the Western Association of Physicians.
