Michael Blum, MD is a cardiologist who specializes in the care of patients with congestive heart failure, valvular heart disease and preventative cardiology. He is dedicated to the early detection of heart disease and prevention through a heart-healthy lifestyle that includes diet, exercise and stress reduction. In addition, Blum applies his expertise in technology to health care as the medical director of Information Technology at UCSF Medical Center. He has a special research interest in clinical decision support technology and its impact on the quality and cost of patient care.
Blum earned a medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in internal medicine, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, American Medical Informatics Association and Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, such as the AMDIS Award for Excellence and Achievement in Advancement of Clinical Information Systems. Blum is an associate clinical professor of medicine in Internal Medicine at UCSF.
