INTRODUCTION
The Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) Laboratory was organized within the Cardiovascular
Research Institute at UCSF in 1986. The overall charter of the group is to
test, re-design, and validate catheter-based ultrasound devices in the in-vitro
and in-vivo settings. A primary focus of the lab is to perform human trials
with IVUS and define the clinical utility of this imaging modality as it applies
to interventional strategies. Additionally, use of the device as a research
tool to examine coronary physiology has been pioneered here as well.
