| The Adult Cardiac Catheteriation Laboratories
are active in a variety of clinical research projects. We have specifically
focused on single-catheter,investigator-initated studies, instead of
the large multi-center, industry-initiated and sponsored clinical trials. In addition, Dr. Yerem Yeghiazarians and Dr. Andrew Boyle have a special interest in regenerative medicine using stem cells as therapeutic options. Dr. Yeghiazarians is Director of the Translational Cardiac Stem Cell Research Program. Some of the ongoing studies in the cardiac catheterization laboratory include: |
| |
- Evaluation of radial artery coronary angiography
- Evaluation of the role of stem cells and microparticles in pulmonary hypertension
- Evaluation of coronary arteries by intravascular ultrasound in patients after a heart transplant
- Evaluation of specific biomarkers in the heart in patients with coronary artery diseae
- Cardiac MRI after ethanol septal ablation for hypertrophic
obstructive cardiomyopathy
- Evaluation of multislice CT angiography in patients with liver disease
- Evaluation of the benefits of cocoa flavanols in treating patients with advanced coronary artery disease
- Evaluation of the adverse effecrs of second hand smoke on the vascular function of patients and the circulating stem cells

The Translational Cardiac Stem Cell Research Program is actively conducting research on many fronts. It is hoped that advances made in the research laboratory will one day translate into improved care of patients with heart disease and after a heart attack. (see link) |
